Smoothie Nutrition

In my quest to find easy recipes to help maintain my healthy lifestyle change, I ran across several programs over the weekend promoting juicing.

I must say I’m not a big fan of juicing. I think it’s better to eat the whole fruit or vegetable rather than just drinking the juice. We need the fiber as well. I’m not knocking juicing though. A lot of people have achieved dramatic weight loss and gained many health benefits as a result of juicing. Maybe one day I’ll try it. For now, I’m trying what I call smoothie nutrition. You get to eat the whole fruit or vegetable in smoothie form. Smoothies are easy to make with a blender and most people have blenders at home. Making a smoothie gives you all the benefits of juicing plus the fiber in the fruit and vegetables, the way nature intended for them to be eaten.

Below is one of my recipes. Try it today and let me know what you think.

1/2 of a carrot stalk

1/2 beet root

1 mini cucumber

1/2 mid sized apple (any variety)

1/2 pear (any variety)

a sliver of ginger root

1 cup of water

Blend and enjoy. Serve over ice or add a few ice chips while blending.  You may not need to depending on how cold your fruits and vegetables are.
